Presidents Message

Excitement abounds with Friends of Wilson Pond Area!

In Fall and Winter 2023, Friends raised $200,000 to support the purchase by the Forest Society of Maine of the 3000-acre -Scammon Ridge Headwaters Conservation Easement. The easement deed was registered in Piscataquis County on January 5, 2024.

In February 2023 anonymous donors gifted $160,000 to Friends.

In March 2023 anonymous donors gifted $40,000 of Merck stock to Friends.

In December 2022 Charlie and Barbara Adams gave 15.85 acres of land to Friends for conservation. Watch for the Adams Preserve signs on the Scammon Road and Lower Wilson Pond waterfront this summer. Thank you donors, you take our breath away!!!!

Friends applied for and received a property tax exemption from the town of Greenville on the Adams Preserve. The Board of Directors voted to give the Town of Greenville $500 in lieu of taxes.

All this activity led to the formation of a Finance Committee and an Anonymous Contributions Committee. The Finance Committee created an account at Camden National Bank to accept securities and invested the cash gift in Certificates of Deposit at Camden National Bank and Bangor Savings Bank.

The 2023 Ice Out Contest winners are Ed Linz and Melissa Tweedie. Congratulations!

Please mark your calendars NOW for events in the summer of 2024.

Sincerely, Kay Johnson, President
