$10,000 Grant Awarded!

2026 Courtesy Boat Inspections

Friends of Wilson Ponds (FOWPA) is excited to announce the receipt of a $10,000 cost-share grant from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The grant will support our Courtesy Boat Inspection (CBI) and Education Program to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species for the 2026 summer season.

We'll be offering boat inspections and education at rotating sites during peak boating hours, including the Indian Hill Trading Post lot and boat launches at Greenville Junction, Lower Wilson Pond, and Lily Bay State Park.

A very special thank you to Craig Watt for graciously allowing us to use the Indian Hill lot. This high-traffic location will give us the opportunity to reach boaters as they arrive in Greenville.

The CBI Program is Maine's first line of defense against invasive aquatic plants, which most commonly spread between lakes on boats, trailers, and equipment. This grant allows us to expand that vital work.

Grant funds will also support part-time seasonal Inspector positions — join the team! We are grateful for the ongoing support of the community and welcome you to participate as a Volunteer Courtesy Boat Inspector or make a donation to support the program.
