Campsites
Explore the beauty of Lower Wilson Pond by staying at one of our five rustic campsites. Each site offers a unique experience, from island camping to cliffside views. All sites are Carry In-Carry Out and feature primitive amenities for a true wilderness experience:
- Outdoor toilet seats (Wag-bags required)
- Fire pits
- Picnic tables

A Fire Permit is required if a recreational fire has flames greater than 3 feet high and is greater than 3 feet in diameter. Permits can be obtained by contacting the local forest ranger or the Maine Forest Service (MFS) Regional Headquarters:

The campsites are available year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. They are accessible by water or across the ice in winter. A public boat launch is located on the west side of the pond.
Please sign in when you visit the sites and leave them as clean or cleaner than when you arrived. While there is no fee for the campsites, donations are greatly appreciated to support their maintenance. Visit our donation page, or send a check to Friends of Wilson Ponds,

Campsite Descriptions:
Campsite 1: Birch Point
Size: Approximately 1600 square feet
Highlights: Views of Scammon Ridge and Teasdale Island, easily recognizable by a unique 5-trunked Cedar tree.
Access: Pull your boat up to a rock ledge directly in front of the site or to a beach west of the site, then walk eastward.

Campsite 2: Gravel Bluff
Size: Slightly smaller than Birch Point
Highlights: Spectacular westerly views and beautiful sunsets.
Access: Follow the same path as Birch Point, pulling your boat up on the beach.

Campsite 3: Blueberry Island
Size: Smallest of the five sites, located on a charming island.
Highlights: Unique island campsite with secluded views.
Access: Best reached from the northern tip of the island via a
rock shelf.

Campsite 4: The Cliffs ("Acapulco")
Size: Sprawling with narrow open areas.
Highlights: Popular cliff-jumping site, great for thrill-seekers. Be mindful of rocks.
Access: Approach from the east, navigating carefully around a reef, and pull boats up on the rock ledge.

Campsite 5: Rum Cove
Size: Shaded and perfect for hot days, featuring a long, narrow clearing with a firepit.
Highlights: Peaceful, wooded site with a lovely westerly view.
Access: Shared landing with The Cliffs, follow the path through
the woods.
