Friends of Wilson Ponds is a Maine land trust. We exist to protect and conserve Upper and Lower Wilson Ponds and their surrounding areas for the benefit of residents and visitors.

2026 ICE OUT Winners!

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Ice out was declared April 28,2026 at 1:15-1:30.

First Place: Melissa T.
will be awarded a Moosehead Lake Cruise aboard the historic Katahdin for two plus a $25 voucher for the galley aboard the ship. Second place: Norm L.  wins a $50 Gift Certificate to Indian Hill Trading Post and a copy of the book "Loving the North Woods" by Karin Tilberg. Third Place: Hilary W. wins a Friends of Wilson Ponds baseball hat and T-shirt of your choosing.

Thank you all for participating! We raised $485 for the Frank C. McIver Scholarship program and the Courtesy Boat Inspection program.

This year we had a tie for first place: Melissa T. and Norm L. In the case of a tie, the entry with the earliest entry submission date will win. Norm will receive the second-place prize. There were six "next closest". Next closest is defined as the nearest time not in the past. Those were Hilary W., Emily L., Joseph M., Thomas W., Denise M., and Lynne D. Hilary W. submitted his entry first and is therefore our third-place winner.

Teen Wilderness Expedition

Kylie Hebert and Jaclyn McClintick received the Friends of Wilson Ponds Franklin Cole McIver Scholarship to attend the Teen Wilderness Expedition in 2024.

Gracie Brook

Gracie Brook flows out of Fogg Pond into Upper Wilson Pond. The Moosehead Gazette 2/6/1953 edition contains a story about how Gracie Brook was named. On an ice fishing trip in March of 1885, a young lady called Gracie set off on snowshoes for an old logging camp.

A big Thank You to Charlie and Barbara Adams for the gift of The Adams Preserve to Friends of Wilson Ponds, composed of 15.85 acres of forestland with 313 feet of shorefront.
